Assam Chief Minister Welcomes Potential BJP Entry of Congress Leader Rana Goswami

Guwahati 27th February: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has expressed openness to welcoming Congress leader Rana Goswami into the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

While addressing the media in Majuli, CM Sarma acknowledged Goswami’s influential leadership in the state, stating that he would be pleased if Goswami decides to join the BJP.

However, Sarma clarified that there have been no discussions on this matter thus far. He emphasized the autonomy of political leaders in making their decisions based on their own calculations and understanding, asserting that no one can coerce anyone into a particular course of action.

This potential move hints at significant shifts in the political dynamics of the region. Amid speculations of senior Congress leader Rana Goswami contemplating leaving the party, Goswami confirmed his resignation from the position of Upper Assam in-charge on February 25.

In a letter addressed to Assam Pradesh Congress Committee President Bhupen Borah, Goswami cited various political reasons for his decision to step down from his organizational role in Upper Assam.

Earlier reports suggested that Goswami was considering quitting the Congress to join the BJP.

Reports revealed that a meeting took place at Goswami’s residence on February 24, where he expressed dissatisfaction with his level of importance within the party and indicated his intention to leave ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

These developments come amidst ongoing rumors of Rana Goswami’s potential transition to the Bharatiya Janata Party, signaling potential changes in the state’s political landscape.
