Assam CM: “Non-Assamese Should Organise Bihu Festival; Don’t Collect Bihu Donations from Them”

Guwahati: On the occasion of Saraswati Puja, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma extended out to both Assamese and non-Assamese individuals to maintain cultural integrity in Assam.

Addressing the media, the Chief Minister said that Bihu celebrations held throughout the state must be organised by voluntary and willing donations from all residents of that district.

“I am stating that if Bihu festivities are held with everyone’s voluntary and willing donation, then Bihu’s goal is met,” Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated.

He also reached out to the non-Assamese communities, such as businessmen and Marwaris, to encourage them to organise their own Bihu festival and foster cultural peace.

The CM appealed to the non-Assamese community, saying, “If Marwari community or business community start organising Bihu festival themselves, it will be a subject of pride for them.”

The CM also addressed the tradition of donation collection, stating that no donations from “non-Assamese” communities are required and that the Bihu celebration can be organised with whatever funds are available.
