Assam: Congress leader joins ULFA-I, One more trying to join arrested in Sonari

Guwahati: Janardan Gogoi, an Assam Congress youth leader from Tinsukia, has joined the underground militant group United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I), according to a Facebook post by Jonardhan himself.

Sources claim that Janardan, a Sadiya resident from Uday Nagar, joined the ULFA Myanmar camp led by Aicheng Assam.

Before joining the group, Gogoi sent a long post to his pregnant wife Reema on Sunday explaining why he wanted to join ULFA.

“I couldn’t wait to see our own people annihilated since they are powerless in their current situation. After witnessing the suffering of my own people, who have been victims of lies and manipulation for years, I couldn’t keep my hands still”, Gogoi wrote in his statement.

Moreover, one more person has been arrested in Taokak area under Sonari’s Namtola police station who was on his way to join ULFA- I.

The arrestee has been identified as Niraj Phukan.

Niraj Phukan is reportedly from Kakpathar in Tinsukia district and the Charaideo Police officials arrested him while he was on his way to join ULFA- I via Nagaland on the Assam-Nagaland border in Sonari
