Assam: Congress MP Candidate Gaurav Gogoi Casts Vote in Jorhat, as First Phase of Lok Sabha Polls Begins

Guwahati, 19th April: Congress MP candidate Gaurav Gogoi exercised his franchise in Jorhat, Assam, marking the onset of the first phase of Lok Sabha Polls on April 19. The phase, covering 102 seats across 21 states and Union Territories, witnessed over 16.63 crore eligible voters.

Jorhat constituency emerges as a crucial battleground, witnessing a face-off between two Gogois from Congress and BJP for the coveted seat.

The first phase encompasses all seats in several states and Union Territories, including Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mizoram, Nagaland, Puducherry, Sikkim, and Lakshadweep. Additionally, voting is underway in seats across Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Maharashtra, Bihar, West Bengal, Manipur, Jammu and Kashmir, Tripura, and Chhattisgarh.

While the Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance seeks a third term at the Centre, the Congress and its INDIA bloc allies aspire to stage a comeback after setbacks in the 2014 and 2019 general elections.
