Assam govt discusses AASU opinion on Clause 6 of Assam Accord
Guwahati: Assam Accord implementation minister Atul Bora stated on Thursday that the full implementation of Clause 6 of the Assam Accord would be a reality shortly.
However, he said that more thought would be required on Clause 6. On Thursday, the fourth Sub-Committee meeting for the fast-track implementation of the Assam Accord was conducted at the Department of Assam Accord Implementation in Guwahati.
The minister shared that senior member of the All-Assam Students’ Union (AASU) had a lengthy discussion about Clause 6 and that the AASU had expressed their opinion on the matter.
“Today, we took AASU’s viewpoint and had a lengthy discussion about the many comments and proposals.” However, more conversations will be required to fully implement Clause 6,” Bora stated.
He further stated that numerous meetings will be held in the coming days to ensure that the Assam Accord’s many stipulations are implemented effectively and quickly.
Atul Bora, the Assam Accord and Agriculture Minister, presided over the meeting, which was also attended by Ranoj Pegu, the education minister, and other top officials from the various departments.
“We are resolute in our demand that Clause 6 be implemented as per the recommendations of the high-power committee report presented earlier,” AASU advisor Samujjal Bhattacharya said.
The Assam government established a sub-committee last year to investigate and draught a framework for implementing all sections of the 1985 Assam Accord.
The Accord’s Clause 6 deals with constitutional, legislative, and administrative measures to “protect, preserve, and develop the Assamese people’s cultural, social, and linguistic identity and history.”
