Educational Institutes in Meghalaya to Remain Closed from June 17-20
Guwahati: All schools in Meghalaya will be closed from June 17 to June 20 due to inclement weather.
Following a warning from the Indian meteorological department (IMD) of poor weather across the state, the Meghalaya administration made this decision.
Over the next five days, the IMD’s MET Shillong centre predicts heavy and continuous rain across Meghalaya.
“In view of the inclement weather and warning by IMD …on heavy to very heavy rainfall …likely to continue over Meghalaya during next 5 days, all schools shall remain closed w.e.f 17th June to 20th June 2022,” the notification from the Meghalaya education department read.
It added: “This notification is issued in the interest of school children.”
Meghalaya’s education minister Lahkmen Rymbui said that schools in the state have been ordered to close until June 20 “because to the weather forecast that heavy rain will persist in the state for the next 48 hours.”
