Assam: Karimganj District Orders Closure of Educational Institutions Amidst Adverse Weather Forecast

Northeast Desk, 28th May: In response to a severe weather forecast issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the Government of Assam, through the Office of the District Commissioner, Karimganj, has mandated the closure of all educational institutions in the district. The closure will be in effect on May 28th and 29th, 2024.

The directive encompasses both government and private educational institutions within the district. This precautionary measure comes as incessant rainfall and worsening weather conditions are expected to impact Karimganj, potentially posing risks to the safety of students and staff.

Despite the closure of schools and colleges, the district administration has clarified that scheduled semester and compartmental exams will continue as planned on these dates.

This decision is taken in accordance with Section 30(2)(v) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, which authorizes authorities to implement necessary measures to mitigate risks and ensure public safety during adverse weather events.

Residents and educational authorities are advised to stay updated with official communications and take necessary precautions to navigate the challenging weather conditions safely.
