Assam: Mamata Banerjee Warns of Democracy at Risk if Modi Wins Again, Vows to Repeal CAA and NRC

Guwahati, 17th April: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee delivered a fiery address to the people during her rally in Assam’s Silchar, issuing a stark warning that democracy and elections would be jeopardized if Prime Minister Modi wins another term.

Banerjee declared, “There won’t be any democracy, election if Modi wins again”, emphasizing the high stakes of the upcoming elections.

She pledged to repeal what she termed as “discriminatory” laws like the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC) if her party, the INDIA bloc, emerges victorious.

Asserting her stance, Banerjee stated, “If we win, we will not implement NRC and CAA in the state.” She questioned the consequences of NRC implementation, asking, “How many people will be kept in the detention camp?”

Expressing her concern over the election process, Banerjee remarked, “This election is going to be terrible. I have never seen such a black and corrupt election before.” She criticized the Modi government, labeling it as a ‘jumlebaaz’ government and asserting that she is not afraid of any threats.

Banerjee’s visit to Assam’s Silchar to support Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Radheshyam Biswas from Karimganj drew a large crowd of supporters and TMC workers. Assam TMC President Ripun Bora highlighted the grand welcome planned for Banerjee, including a motorcycle rally with thousands of TMC supporters participating in the welcoming ceremony.

Banerjee’s strong stance on key issues like democracy, CAA, and NRC added momentum to the political discourse in the region, reflecting the fervent engagement of the electorate.
