Assam: Man apprehended with handmade rifle in Goalpara

Guwahati, 24th April: Assam Police on April 24 made an arrest in Goalpara Krishnai after discovering a man in possession of a handmade rifle near the Assam-Meghalaya border area. The individual, identified as Mamu Rabha, was found to have unlawfully stored the weapon at his residence for an extended period.

During a targeted police operation in Bamunepanikhowa village, located on the Assam-Meghalaya border within Krishnai, authorities apprehended Mamu Rabha, aged 32. Alongside the arrest, a handmade rifle was seized from his domicile.

Investigations revealed that Mamu Rabha had personally crafted the rifle and kept it unlawfully within his home. While Mamu Rabha claimed the firearm was used to deter wild elephants, law enforcement detained him due to the absence of valid documentation for the handmade firearm.

The confiscation of the rifle and the subsequent arrest highlight the Assam Police’s ongoing efforts to maintain law and order in the region and prevent illegal possession of firearms. Further legal proceedings will follow as the investigation progresses.
