Guwahati, 10th September: In a landmark judgment, the Additional District and Sessions Judge of Abhayapuri, B.K. Nath, sentenced a man to life imprisonment for raping and impregnating a 15-year-old girl in Bongaigaon district. The convict, Asabul Hussain, a resident of Khoragao, was found guilty of the 2018 crime.
Terming the incident as “horrific,” the court handed down a life sentence and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000, to be awarded to the victim. Should Hussain fail to pay the fine, he will face an additional six months of imprisonment.
The case came to light after the victim’s family filed a complaint with Jogighopa police station in 2018. A subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Hussain, and the victim later gave birth to a baby boy.
The court’s ruling has provided some closure to the victim and her family, sending a clear message that such heinous acts will be met with severe consequences under the law.
