Assam: Police Arrest Husband-Wife Duo in Drug Bust Operation
Guwahati, 4th May: In a late-night operation led by Margherita Sub-Divisional Police Officer Sambhavi Mishra (IPS), a husband-wife duo was apprehended in Udaipur of Jagun, under Tinsukia district. The operation targeted Gopal Chhetri, a resident of Udaipur Kuhianbari village under Lekhapani police station.
Acting on credible intelligence and conducting a covert operation, the police team successfully detained Gopal Chhetri, who was allegedly involved in transporting banned drugs from Manipur for an extended period. The seized quantity of banned drugs, valued at approximately Rs 3 lakh, underscores the scale of the illegal drug trade in the region.
In addition to Gopal Chhetri, his wife was also arrested on suspicion of being connected to the drug trade activities conducted by her husband. This arrest highlights the police’s commitment to dismantling drug networks and holding individuals accountable for their involvement in illicit drug activities.
Udaipur Sugarcanebari village, situated amidst the scenic landscape of Jagun, is part of the Tinsukia district in Assam. While known for its tranquil surroundings and agricultural practices, the village has recently gained attention due to the regrettable involvement of some residents in illegal drug trafficking.
