Assam: Police Crack Down on Illegal Liquor Sales in Digboi Chariali Market

Guwahati: A late-night operation conducted by the police in Digboi Chariali market to curb the sale of illicit foreign liquor took an unexpected turn when two alleged traders, Kedar Gupta (70) and his son Akash Gupta (34), physically attacked the police team.

The authorities successfully detained both individuals and seized a substantial amount of unauthorized foreign alcohol during the raid.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that a female police officer was also targeted in an attempt to physically assault her during the altercation, raising concerns about the safety of law enforcement personnel.

This incident highlights the persistent defiance exhibited by illegal liquor vendors in the area, despite numerous prior warnings and stringent measures. According to sources within the Digboi Police Department, this is not the first time such actions have been taken to deter the ongoing illegal trade.

The local community is growing increasingly concerned about the brazen nature of these illegal activities. The police department remains committed to combating the illicit liquor trade, ensuring public safety, and upholding the law.
