Assam Police Seize Rs 1 Crore Worth of Narcotics in Cachar
Guwahati: Police in Assam’s Cachar district have successfully intercepted a significant quantity of narcotics valued at Rs 1 crore during a special operation at Digharkhal Toll Gate under the Kalain police station.
Acting on specific intelligence, officers apprehended a vehicle en route to Aizawl from Guwahati. The seizure included 8,640 bottles of codeine phosphate cough syrup and 2 kg of ganja.
Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta confirmed the arrest of Joylaldan Thanga, a 38-year-old resident of Aizawl, who was driving the intercepted vehicle.
The contraband and the vehicle have been confiscated by the police, and further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the successful operation on social media, acknowledging the dedicated efforts of the state police in combating the menace of drug trafficking. “Drugs worth ₹1 crore recovered by @cacharpolice… Good job @assampolice,” he wrote in a post on X.
This recent success builds upon another major operation conducted in December by the Special Task Force in collaboration with Cachar district police. During this operation, authorities seized a substantial quantity of narcotics, including 60,000 Yaba tablets and 125 grams of heroin, in Silchar. Sahil Ahmed Laskar, a suspect involved in the transportation of these drugs on a motorcycle, was apprehended during the raid.
