Assam Police Thwart Human Trafficking Bid, Rescue Two Women

Guwahati, 27th February: In a swift operation, Assam Police, in collaboration with New Bongaigaon GRP personnel, intercepted a human trafficking attempt at New Bongaigaon railway station, rescuing two women from being trafficked to Haryana.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, Jogighopa police and New Bongaigaon GRP apprehended one individual identified as Zahiruddin Poddar. Poddar was apprehended while attempting to transport the two victims to Haryana, allegedly with the intention of bringing back a young woman who had been previously sold.

Following the successful intervention, the New Bongaigaon GRP and Jogighopa police rescued the two women and placed Zahiruddin under arrest. A case (number 11/24) has been registered at Jogighopa police station based on the complaint filed by the family of the young woman who had been sold earlier.

As the investigation progresses, authorities are actively pursuing Zahiruddin’s accomplice, Rahim, who is currently at large. The police remain vigilant as they work to ensure the safety and security of potential trafficking victims, striving to bring perpetrators to justice.
