Assam: Press Conference by DGP GP Singh on SI Junmoni Rabha Death, DGP Warns Police

Guwahati, 20 May: DGP G P Singh’s press conference on the death of SI Junmoni Rabha. Speaking at a press conference organised at the Assam Police Headquarters, DGP G P Singh said, “There was a news at midnight on 16th that Jonmani’s Rabha had died. The case was handed over to the CID based on preliminary investigation. The case was probed by the CID for three days. The chief minister was met yesterday and informed about the incident. The chief minister had expressed his views in this regard. ’’

G P Singh added, “We have four cases in connection with the incident. One case was registered at Nagaon police station, one at Lakhimpur police station and two at Jakhalabandha police station. I requested the CBI to investigate the entire case. Apart from this, it was decided to transfer all the police officers of these two districts in consultation with the CM. ’’

“There is no doubt about the efficacy of the CID. But this decision has been taken for the sake of public sentiment and impartiality. The second reason is that one of our officers has been killed, so it needs to be investigated by a neutral agency. We hope the CID will conduct a transparent and proper investigation, Singh said ’’

DGP G P Singh also assured to remove the consignment of fake gold within 30 days. He also warned the police that the headquarters would be strict against any police officers involved in criminal activities and take strict against them.

G P Singh said the drive against fake gold and fake notes is underway. However, 71 people have been arrested till now and the smuggling of fake gold, fake note will be removed within 30 days.
