Assam: RPF seizes Contraband and Narcotics worth over 26 lakhs

Guwahati: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway seized Contraband goods and narcotics worth approximately Rs 26.52 lakhs from April 12th to 18th, 2022.

Regular checks in trains and stations were carried out at this period of time. The RPF said it seized heroin and brown sugar worth Rs 14.96 lakh, as well as ganja worth Rs 11.56 lakh.

On April 13, a joint team of RPF and GRP conducted a check at Dibrugarh Railway station for train No. 15669 UP (Nagaland Intercity-Express) and discovered one suspect carrying a backpack.

Six soap cases containing 78.34 grammes of brown sugar worth Rs 4.96 lakhs were discovered when the contents of the rucksack were examined. Soon after, the suspect was apprehended.

It may be mentioned that an escorting party of the RPF discovered one unclaimed backpack aboard the Ledo – Guwahati Intercity Express train in another instance.

Moreover, checking the bag, 5 plastic soap cases containing some brown powdery substance packed in polythene were found. They were later tested to be heroin worth Rs 10 lakh.
