Assam: Senior Maoist leader Surrenders
Guwahati: A senior Maoist leader surrendered before the Additional Director General of Police of the Special Branch in Guwahati, Assam on Tuesday.
He was identified as Tingraj Orang, 49, and he surrendered before ADGP Hiren Chandra Nath.
The surrendered person is said to be the convener of the Assam State Organizing Committee (ASOC) of CPI-Maoist. He was the General Secretary of Barak and Bramhaputra Valley Zonal Committees of CPI-Maoist in Assam.
As per the police, Orang started his association with Left as a member of SFI and CPM from 1989-99. He was president of Adivasi Chah Janagoshti Suraksha Committee and then he formally joined CPI-Maoist in 2006 and met Kishan Da (ERB Chief).
In 2011 he was arrested in Rourkela, Orissa along with 2 CPI Maoist cadre of Assam- Aditya Bora and Ajoy Sabor.
Tingraj Orang belongs to the Dibrugarh district and he is the only senior Maoist leader expanding bases of CPI-Maoist in Barak and Brahmaputra Valley of Assam.
The police said his surrender would be a huge setback for the CPI-Maoist movement in Assam, and the ASOC would be leaderless. The police stated though there were no arms and ammunition, his surrender will be a moral setback of Maoist elements in the State.
