Assam: Sherman Ali to Resign from Congress
Guwahati: Suspended Congress MLA, Sherman Ali has formally announced his departure from the party. He stated unequivocally that I will leave the party.
Sherman Ali, who made the revelation claimed, “Congress has lost its mind by losing every election. The party is sinking due to ineffective leadership. The party is in desperate need of wise leaders. Minority issues would never be solved by Congress.”
Meanwhile, the Assam Congress has written to Biswajit Daimary, Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly, requesting Sherman Ali’s removal from the House.
A delegation of the Assam Congress, led by opposition leader Debabrata Saikia, has written to Speaker Biswajit Daimary about the issue.
It needs to noted that in October of last year, MLA Sherman Ali was suspended by the Congress party in Assam for breaking party discipline and engaging in anti-party actions.
Ali was also arrested prior to his suspension for reportedly making provocative statements in regard to an eviction drive in Assam’s Darrang district in September of last year.
Speaker Biswajit Daimary had previously been asked by the Assam Congress to disqualify two other party MLAs, Sashi Kanta Das and Siddique Ahmed.
