Guwahati: A suspected person has been arrested for allegedly being involved in poaching a rhino from Golaghat district of Assam.
The incident took place in the Sarupathar town of the district.
The arrested poacher has been identified as Uttam Khaklari who is a resident of Rengmaipur in Uriamghat of the district.
According to reports, he is accused of being the gunman in the recent rhino poaching incident in Kaziranga’s Kohora in January.
He was apparently hiding in Nagaland, but had lately relocated to the Sarupathar area, where he was apprehended based on information.
However, the police officials are still looking into the matter and it’s unclear whether he was involved in the rhino’s death.
No weapons were recovered from him during his arrest.
