Assam: Three Myanmarese Nationals Arrested for Illegal Entry into India
Lohit, August 3, 2024 — Three Myanmarese nationals were apprehended on August 3 for illegally entering Indian territory through the Lohit district.
The trio was arrested from an area under the Wakro circle of Kathan village. Following their arrest, they were taken to the local police station in Wakro.
Sources report that local youth from Kathan identified and caught the individuals, who were in possession of two rifles and bullets. The youth subsequently handed them over to Wakro Police Station.
This incident comes in the wake of an order from the Gauhati High Court directing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate the alleged smuggling of dry areca nuts from Myanmar into Mizoram. The directive was issued in response to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Vanramchhuangi, also known as Ruatfela Nu, in April 2022.
