Assam: Two Infants Die in Moran Town Due to Extreme Cold

Guwahati: In a tragic incident, two infants—one who was only 4 months old and another who was 1—died from extreme cold on Friday in Moran Town of Assam.

This was stated by Health officer Dr Himangshu Borah on January 20.

Dr. Borah claims that the second son of Sunny and Rajmoni Dhanwar, a 4-month-old infant, passed away while he was asleep.

“The baby had previously come to us for immunization. He had returned home safely. When questioned if he had any cold or other symptoms, his mother stated he had a mild fever but had recovered and was playing normally. She had given him milk at night, and the child had gone off to sleep. The father found the child to be still in the early morning,” he added.

He continued, “When I went to the house of the dead child, I found that their living circumstances were very bad, with roofs with gaps and barely enough walls and ceilings to protect them from the severe cold that Moran has been experiencing since the hailstorm slammed the area on December 26 last year.”

Dr. Borah confirmed that the excessive cold in Moran caused the death of another one-year-old baby. The killings happened in the Moran region of the Dibrugarh district of eastern Assam, in the No Mirhola neighbourhood of Moran.

Numerous underprivileged families in the area were offered assistance by the government in the wake of the hailstorm, but many of the families have still not received anything.
