Assam: Violent Clash in Karimganj’s Katmani Area Over Alleged Goat Theft Leaves Six Injured
Karimganj, 13th August: A violent altercation erupted in Karimganj’s Katmani area following allegations of goat theft, resulting in six people being severely injured, including a woman. The incident, which occurred on Monday, August 14, has left the local community in shock.
The conflict began after Alim Uddin, a resident of Katmani, reported the theft of three of his goats. His inquiries led to suspicions that Shamshuddin, a local man, was responsible for the theft. Alim Uddin sought the intervention of the local mosque committee to resolve the issue.
However, tensions boiled over when Alim Uddin was visiting his nephew Nizam’s shop. Shamshuddin, along with several accomplices, reportedly attacked Alim Uddin with rods. The situation further escalated when members of Alim Uddin’s family, who had come to his aid, were also assaulted. The attackers allegedly vandalized Nizam’s shop during the confrontation.
The injured were initially taken to Makunda Christian Hospital for treatment. However, due to the critical condition of one of the victims, they were later transferred to Silchar Medical College Hospital for advanced care.
Local police responded quickly to the scene and have launched an investigation into the incident, as the community awaits further developments.
