Assam’s ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ Initiative Kicks Off in Kokrajhar with Community Participation

Northeast Desk, 1st August: The Assam Government’s ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ tree-planting initiative was launched in Kokrajhar on Thursday, August 1. The event, held in front of the Bodofa Cultural Complex in Kokrajhar city, was organized by the Kokrajhar District Administration and the BTC Forest Department.

Local MLA Lawrence Islary led the tree-planting ceremony, which saw the active participation of eighty ACS probationers currently training at the Bodoland Administrative Staff College.

The event was also attended by District Additional Deputy Commissioner Wahidul Islam, Additional Superintendent of Police Nabneeta Sarma, DFO of Hultugao Forest Division Jayanta Brahma, District Officer of SLRM Bichitra Narzari, and BTC Secretary Phami Brahma, highlighting the community’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the nationwide tree plantation campaign, ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,’ in Dispur as part of the Amrit Brikshya Andolan 2024. The launch event took place at the Ministers’ Colony, with CM Sarma planting the first tree.

The ceremony in Dispur was attended by Minister for Environment and Forests Chandra Mohan Patowary, along with several high-ranking officials, emphasizing the importance of the campaign. This ambitious drive aims to plant three crore trees across Assam by August 15.

Citizens are encouraged to collect saplings from designated local distribution centers, with the distribution period extending until August 12, 2024. This statewide initiative seeks to mobilize the entire population in a collective effort to enhance green cover and promote environmental sustainability.
