Bihar: JD (U) leader’s kin shot dead in Saran
Guwahati: The grandson of a senior leader of Bihar’s ruling Janata Dal-United (JD-U) was shot and killed in Saran district on Wednesday.
The incident took place in the Chapra city of the district.
The deceased has been identified as Dipak Kumar. He is the grandson of senior JD-U leader and former district council president Baijnath Prasad Bikal.
According to reports, Kumar was riding a motorcycle with his sister to visit a cousin in a nearby village in the district when the incident occurred.
Four bike-riding criminals overtook them as they approached Rampur Bathani hamlet which is under the jurisdiction of the Garkha police station and attempted to steal his sister’s jewels.
When Dipak Kumar resisted, one of the thieves drew a revolver and shot him in the chest, killing him instantly on the spot.
Following the incident, a big crowd of locals gathered on the road and blocked it for three hours.
Santosh Kumar, Saran’s SSP, said the incident is being investigated from all perspectives, reports claimed.
“An eyewitness to the murder is the deceased’s sister. To identify the robbers, we’re drawing sketches of the suspects. Raids are currently taking place. In order to apprehend the accused, a thorough investigation is presently underway in the district,” he stated.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
