An “interior compartment” refers to one of the ship’s many compartments. The cause of the explosion has yet to be determined.

According to reports, ten additional people on board were hurt and are being treated at the Naval Hospital in Mumbai.

However, the cause has been ordered to be investigated by a board of inquiry. The ship’s crew acted promptly and effectively to get the situation under control. There has been no serious material damage reported. The deceased’s identities have yet to be revealed.

It may be noted that INS Ranvir has been on operational deployment since November last year. It was scheduled to return to its home base on the East Coast shortly. When fully laden, the 147-meter-long battleship has a displacement of 4,900 tonnes.
