Boat carrying rice bags sinks in Brahmaputra River in Assam’s Barpeta

Guwahati: A boat carrying rice crashed in the Brahmaputra River in Barpeta district of Assam on Tuesday evening.

According to reports, the boat carrying rice bags was coming from Bohori Ghat to Kachumara Ghat and it was caught up in a storm and the boat sank in the Brahmaputra River.

The passengers reportedly who were in the boat were safely rescued by locals.

However, no casualty was reported in the incident.

According to Iqbal Hussain, a local youth from Barpeta, a boat travelling from Bohori to Kachumara sank in the Brahmaputra River on Tuesday evening after being trapped in a storm.

“The people were saved, but the catastrophe destroyed the rice bags and other belongings. We demand that the state government take the required steps to build a bridge between Bohori and Kachumara,” stated Iqbal Hussain.
