Northeast Desk, 17th April: In a bid to usher in a new era of political reform in Manipur, Congress candidate Angomcha Bimol Akoijam has unveiled his personal manifesto outlining 13 key agendas he pledges to champion if elected as the Member of Parliament for the Inner Manipur constituency.
During the manifesto release event, Akoijam made bold remarks regarding the challenges he has faced, including disruptions to his campaign and targeted attacks by unidentified individuals.
Expressing determination to transform the political landscape and combat entrenched corruption, Akoijam stated, “My decision to contest the election is driven by my commitment to change and cleanse the system of dirty politics. Those vested interests seeking to perpetuate chaos in the state are perturbed by my entry into the electoral fray. Despite facing disruptions and targeted efforts to silence my voice, the will of the people shall prevail.”
Outlined in his manifesto are the following agendas:
1) Fixing accountability for ongoing violence and justice for internally displaced persons
2) Support for constitutional protection, including scheduled tribe status for Meitei
3) Advocacy for population policy and the National Register of Citizens
4) Establishment of an Economic Development Task Force
5) Implementation of an Educational Empowerment Initiative
6) Promotion of inter-community dialogue and collaboration initiatives
7) Initiative for governance accountability and oversight
8) Creation of a Centre for indigenous arts and cultural integration
9) Formation of a Socio-economic and education status assessment committee
10) Paradigm shift from military lens to civilian governance
11) Efforts to rebuild the brand image of Manipur
12) Advocacy for administrative reform
13) Strengthening Manipur’s position within the Indian federal polity
With a vision for a revitalized Manipur, Akoijam’s manifesto underscores his commitment to fostering development, ensuring justice, and promoting inclusive governance for the people of the Inner Manipur constituency.
