NSCN-KYA Militant Group Gaining Strength Ahead of Arunachal Pradesh Assembly Elections

Northeast Desk, 17th April: With the assembly elections in Arunachal Pradesh looming, concerns are mounting over the growing influence of the NSCN-KYA militant group in the region.

Reports indicate that leaflets containing threats of severe consequences for non-compliance with the group’s directives have been distributed in villages falling under the Longding Pumao Assembly Constituency.

Residents living in these areas have expressed grave concerns for their safety and that of their families, fearing repercussions if they do not comply with the voting instructions issued by the armed militants.

Eyewitnesses have confirmed sightings of armed militants affiliated with NSCN-KYA in several villages, including Niuasa, Longkhaw, Mintong, and Longphong, all situated within the Longding Pumao assembly constituency.

These militants have allegedly resorted to intimidation tactics, reportedly brandishing firearms to coerce local residents into voting for the candidate of the National People’s Party, Thangwang Wangham.

As the electoral process approaches, urgent action is needed to address these reported instances of threats and coercion, safeguarding the democratic rights and security of the residents in the affected areas.
