Congress: Sonia Gandhi being treated for fungal infection
Guwahati: Sonia Gandhi, the interim head of the Congress, is being treated for a fungal infection in her lower respiratory tract as well as post-COVID symptoms, according to a statement released by the party on Friday.
According to the party, she is still being closely monitored and treated.
On behalf of the Congress party, general secretary Jairam Ramesh issued a statement that read, “Congress President Sonia Gandhi was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi on the afternoon of June 12, 2022, when she developed profuse bleeding from the nose following a recent COVID-19 infection. She was immediately put under treatment and underwent a related follow-up procedure yesterday morning. A fungal infection in her lower respiratory tract was also detected upon admission. She is currently being treated for it along with other post-COVID symptoms. She continues to be under close observation and treatment.”
On June 12, the Congress President was hospitalised to Delhi’s Ganga Ram Hospital with Covid problems and heavy nasal bleeding. She also had a follow-up procedure. On June 1, she tested positive for COVID-19.
The Enforcement Directorate summoned Gandhi on June 23 in a money laundering investigation.
Rahul Gandhi, her son and former Congress president, has previously been questioned by the investigation agency for three days, with his next deposition slated for Monday.
