Congress Urges Modi to Visit Manipur Amid Ongoing Crisis
Northeast Desk, 10th August: The Congress party on Saturday welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Wayanad, Kerala, while simultaneously calling for a visit to Manipur, which has been struggling with severe unrest for over 15 months.
Prime Minister Modi is currently in Wayanad, addressing the aftermath of devastating landslides that have claimed over 200 lives. In response, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh took to social media to commend the visit but also to highlight the ongoing crisis in Manipur.
“It is good that the Prime Minister is in Wayanad today, acknowledging the tragic situation there,” Ramesh wrote in a post on X. “After this, he is scheduled to visit Ukraine to address the war. We hope he will also find the time and inclination to visit Manipur, which has been in profound pain, anguish, and agony for over 15 months.”
Ramesh criticized Modi for not visiting Manipur despite repeated requests from the Congress, emphasizing that the northeastern state’s suffering deserves equal attention. The party’s comments underscore a growing frustration over the lack of focus on Manipur amidst the government’s response to other crises.
