The Indian Metrological Department said that the cyclonic storm ‘Tauktae’ has been intensified into “Extremely severe cyclonic Storm” as it approaches the coast of Gujarat.
Gusty winds and heavy rainfall lashed the city of Mumbai as the storm headed towards Gujarat. Cyclone ‘Tauktae’ is the season’s first major storm with a wind speed of 180 to 190 km/hr. The Government has ordered evacuation of the people of the low lying areas in view of the cyclonic storm.
Prime Minister Modi chaired a high level meeting to review the preparedness to deal with the impact of the storm with ministries and agencies concerned.
