Delhi Mundka Fire: Absconding Owner Arrested by Police

Guwahati: Delhi Police has arrested the absconding owner of the office building that caught fire in Mundka, Delhi, on Sunday, May 15.

The owner of the building in Mundka that caught fire on Saturday, May 14 has been identified as Manish Lakra.

A major fire broke out at a three-story commercial building near Mundka metro station in west Delhi, killing at least 27 persons.

Manish Lakra, the absconding owner, was apprehended by a dedicated team of Outer District police officers working under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Outer District.

On Saturday, Delhi Fire Service Chief Officer Atul Garg stated that the building that caught fire had numerous severe flaws.

According to Garg, the structure was not allowed and lacked a Non-Objection Certificate (NOC). According to reports, the fire was started by an electrical surge.

There was just one exit gate, and there was no fire safety. He claimed it was overburdened with equipment and lacked a proper compartment. In the plant, a lot of plastic was used.

“Moreover, there were 50-60 persons in a single room, which was closed from the outside,” the officer added.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has ordered a magisterial investigation into the Mundka fire. He also announced ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh to the families of those who died in the fire and Rs 50,000 to the injured.

It may be mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took to Twitter to announce that the families of those who lost their lives in the fire will receive Rs 2 lakh as compensation. He also added that the injured will be given Rs 50,000.
