Dibrugarh Airport Completes Runway Extension, Resumes ILS Operations

Guwahati, 7th September: Dibrugarh Airport in Mohanbari, Assam, has successfully completed the merging of its extended runway with the existing one, restoring it to its original length of 1830 meters. The Instrument Landing System (ILS) facility, crucial for safe landings in low visibility conditions, will be operational again within two days following flight calibration.

The runway threshold was temporarily displaced by 150 meters to facilitate the merging process, which also led to the unavailability of the ILS facility. This limitation restricted the airport’s operations to daytime only.

However, the ILS and DVOR (Distance Measuring Equipment) underwent flight calibration on Wednesday, conducted by a special aircraft from the Airports Authority of India (AAI). Starting the following day, the ILS will be operational again, enabling the airport to resume 24-hour operations.

This development will enhance the airport’s capacity and safety for both day and night flights.
