Disappointed over Amit Shah’s Attitude regarding ILP in Meghalaya: KSU

Guwahati: Pressure groups in Meghalaya claimed that they were left disappointed as Union Home Minister Amit Shah remained “silent” over the long-standing inner line permit (ILP) issue.

As per some reports, on Saturday Amit Shah was supposed to hold discussions with pressure groups but they were given about 30 minutes for the meeting. However, when the groups forwarded the submissions related to the demands, Amit Shah had asked them to continue with other issues or end the meeting. The groups following this were “angered”.

It may be mentioned that the indigenous people of Meghalaya consider the ILP as protection. The ILP is seen to be a safeguard for Meghalaya against the alleged entry of illegal immigrants.
The pressure groups included the Khasi Students Union (KSU), Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP), Ri Bhoi Youth Federation, Hynniewtrep National Youth Front, Garo Students’ Union, Confederation of

Meghalaya Social Organizations (CoMSO), and others.
Speaking on the issue, KSU president Lambokstarwell Marngar claimed that they were disappointed “with Amit Shah’s attitude”.

Marngar stated that they had hoped for the Home Minister to speak about the issue but he remained “silent”. They also claimed that the groups are now in darkness regarding where the government stands related to the ILP issue. “Shah had insulted the indigenous people of the state”, he added.
