Doordarshan’s coverage of Republic Day a Global Hit
Guwahati: The coverage of Republic Day 2022 by national broadcaster Doordarshan was a global success with more views on DD’s YouTube network than on its TV network.
According to a Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announcement, the YouTube network had a total viewership of 2.6 crores while DD’s television network had a viewership of 2.3 crore. These data show how far the Doordarshan network reaches.
The viewership figures were further boosted by over 180 minutes, bringing the total to over 3.2 billion television viewing minutes across India, where the Doordarshan visuals were broadcast for almost three hours from 9:30 a.m. to noon. According to the statement, more than 180 channels broadcasted DD’s live broadcasting of the Republic Day 2022 event.
Doordarshan also reached out to an international audience through its R-Day broadcast. More than 140 countries, including the United States, the United Arab Emirates, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, France, Germany, Australia, Japan, Canada, and Pakistan, watched the national broadcaster.
From a dedicated Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose tableau to the Indian Army exhibiting the evolution of its uniforms and guns since India’s Independence in 1947, this year’s Republic Day parade was particularly memorable in many ways.
To mark 75 years of independence, the grand flypast at the Republic Day 2022 event began with the Indian Air Force’s ‘Dhwaj’ formation of four Mi-17 aircraft and ended with 17 Jaguar aircraft flying in the ‘Amrit’ configuration. On the 125th anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s birth, the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) created a tableau to honour him.
The Indian Army demonstrated the evolution of uniforms and guns over the years since India’s independence at the stroke of midnight on August 15, 1947. Three Army contingents donned old battle uniforms and carried old Tavor rifles, while one wore the new combat uniform and carried modern Tavor rifles.
The country’s first woman Indian Air Force (IAF) pilot to fly the Rafale fighter jet, Shivangi Singh was a part of the Indian Air Force (IAF) tableau.
