Guwahati: In a tragic road accident, a drunk driver of a police car allegedly knocked down two people in the Hatigaon area of Guwahati on Sunday night.
The incident took place at Sijubari in Hatigaon.
According to reports, a man and a young boy were coming from Hatigaon towards Sijubari with a cart selling goods. At the same time, a police car approaching from the same direction slammed into the two from behind.
Reportedly, the boy sustained minor injuries, but the man was badly hurt. He has been admitted to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in a severe condition.
Meanwhile, the driver fled from the spot with his car immediately following the incident.
After driving a short distance, the inebriated driver struck another scooty rider, wounding him.
The driver has been identified as Ramez Ali.
However, Ali was arrested by the Hatigaon Police near Majhar area.
It needs to be mentioned that Ali was riding the police vehicle of the Bhangagarh Police Station.
