ED attaches properties of Sanjay Raut and associates in money laundering case

Guwahati: Under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), the Enforcement Directorate (ED) attached assets worth over Rs 11.15 crore of Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut’s wife Varsha Raut and his accused close aide Pravin Raut on Tuesday.

The attachment was granted in a case involving irregularities in a subsidiary of Housing Development and Infrastructure Ltd’s reconstruction of the Patra Chawl project in Mumbai (HDIL).

The ED arrested Maharashtra-based businessman Pravin Raut in connection with the case in February and later issued a chargesheet.

Sanjay Raut’s wife Varsha Raut was previously questioned by the ED in connection with another money laundering case relating to the PMC Bank fraud case, as well as her alleged ties to Pravin Raut’s wife Madhuri.

Pravin Raut was apprehended by the central agency on February 4 under the PMLA.

According to the ED, a tripartite agreement was made between the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) and Guru Ashish Construction Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of Housing Development and Infrastructure Ltd, in the reconstruction of Patra chawl (HDIL).

The ‘chawl’ has 672 tenants living in tenements on 47 acres of MHADA property
