Ex-Tripura CM’s Ancestral Home Vandalised, Set Ablaze

Guwahati: The ancestral home of former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb in Udaipur in the Gomati district was set fire by unknown miscreants late on Tuesday night.

The incident took place when a group of priests showed up at Deb’s house in Rajdhanagar, a area in Udaipur’s Jamjuri district. As part of Deb’s father’s yearly Shradh ceremony, the priests attended the residence of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Rajya Sabha MP to perform a Yajna.

The saints were reportedly accosted by the miscreants who also vandalised their vehicles. The priests were saved by bystanders and townspeople who then fled after the criminals.

Meanwhile, the locals staged a protest over the incident. They destroyed stores thought to belong to the assailants. Following this, a significant police presence was deployed at the scene of the incident.

Nirupam Debbarma, a Sub Divisional Police Officer and Debanjana Roy, an Additional Superintendent of Police immediately rushed to the scene to handle the issue.

According to reports, the attackers had the support of the Opposition CPIM. Videos of the incident showed the house and the adjacent stores being completely consumed by fire.
