National Desk, 24th February: Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has given the green light to a financial incentive for Armed Forces personnel who clinched medals in their respective categories at the 19th Asian Games and 4th Asian Para Games held in Hangzhou, China, in September-October 2023.
Gold medal winners will receive Rs 25 lakh, while Silver medal winners will be awarded Rs 15 lakh. Bronze medal winners will receive Rs 10 lakh as recognition for their outstanding achievements on the international stage.
During a felicitation ceremony honoring defense services sportspersons, Rajnath Singh praised the dedication and hard work of the players, including those who fell short of securing medals. He drew parallels to the iconic Flying Sikh Milkha Singh, who narrowly missed out on a medal in the 400-meter race at the 1960 Olympics in Rome but went on to become a beacon of inspiration in Indian athletics.
Singh expressed confidence that the exemplary performances and medals attained by the Armed Forces personnel will serve as a catalyst to inspire the youth of the nation to actively participate in sports. He commended the consistent success of Armed Forces personnel, who consistently emerge as medal winners across various sporting events.
