Former Assam CM Tarun Gogoi awarded with Padma Bhushan

Guwahati: Assam’s former Chief Minister, Tarun Gogoi was awarded the Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian award in the Republic of India on Tuesday.

The former Assam Chief Minister received the award posthumously. The award was received by his wife, Dolly Gogoi on his behalf from President of India, Ram Nath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi.

It may be mentioned that Tarun Gogoi was one of the most popular politicians in the state. He died on November 23, 2020, after suffering from multiple organ failures. He was also tested positive for the COVID-19 in August 2020 following which his health started to deteriorate.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “The conferring of Padma Bhushan posthumously to former Assam CM Late Sri Tarun Gogoi by Adarniya Rashtrapati Ji is a fine tribute to the great icon of Indian politics and a mass leader. I join the family in this moment of joy! Congratulations.”
