Former Barpeta MLA Abdur Rahim Khan quits Congress party
Guwahati: Former Barpeta MLA and Barpeta District Congress president Abdur Rahim Khan on Thursday resigned from the Congress party.
Abdur Rahim Khan tendered his resignation from his position.
In his resignation letter, Khan said, “With due respect and humble submission, I have the honour to inform you that I am compelled to resign from the post of the Barpeta District Congress president as well as from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress.”
Bhupen Bora, president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) received the resignation letter.
Abdur Rahim Khan declared before the media that the people are no longer with the Congress party because of Barpeta Congress MP Abdul Khaleque, MLA Abdur Rahim Ahmed, and Zakir Hussain Sikdar.
According to reports, the Ex-MLA is expected to re-join the Badruddin Ajmal-led AIUDF party soon.
Ex-MLA Khan ran for the Barpeta Constituency in the 2011 assembly elections as an AIUDF candidate.
Khan eventually joined the Congress in 2017. In the presence of former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi, the APCC held a joining ceremony in the courtyard of Rajiv Bhawan.
Meanwhile, APCC president Bhupen Bora has appointed Rafiqul Hoque as president (In-charge) of Barpeta District Congress Committee with immediate effect.
