Guwahati: In the upcoming Guwahati municipal corporation (GMC) elections at least 40 of the 400 females sex workers are eligible to cast their vote.
The GMC election will be held in 60 wards.
The Kamrup district administration for the first time ensure the voting rights of sex workers as per the Supreme court direction.
The administration also trying to reach out persons who have been deprived from availing of voter’s card.
According to reports, at least 1200 sex workers include male, female, and transgender have been yet to ascertain their voting rights.
In total 7,97,807 voters in electoral rolls on March 5,2022.
Out of which 3,97,128 male voters, 4,00654 female’s voters and 26 transgenders.
It may be mentioned that the sex workers residing in the city but belong to other states enrolled their voters list in native place.
Voting will be held at 780 polling stations.
