Guwahati: A total of 20 litres of such liquor was destroyed in an operation aimed at breaking country liquor dens. The operation was led by Officer in-Charge Priyabrat Gogoi from the Fancy Bazar police station.
The operation took place near the railway track in Guwahati, which runs from Fancy Bazar to Athgaon. Several booze stores were also evicted during the operation.
Notably, the railway police have conducted operations in the region on multiple occasions, yet the booze dens have resurfaced. It should also be noted that several illegal construction projects are underway in the neighbourhood, but authorities have been unable to fully regulate the situation, resulting in the continuation of these projects.
Locals claim that police perform operations in the region, but that no fruitful results have been uncovered. Evictions are carried out frequently by the police, however such situations recur after 2-3 days or a week because the police have taken no strict action other than to evict and destroy the booze.
