Guwahati man claims to be Jayanta Malla Baruah, Arrested

Guwahati: A team of Assam Police has arrested a man who was allegedly fooling people by impersonating to be MLA Jayanta Malla Baruah and extorting money from people in the context of providing them with government jobs.

As per reports, the person was arrested based on a complaint filed by a person named Sandeep Jalan of Guwahati’s Geetanagar. The person alleged that a person claiming to be Baruah had demanded Rs 30 lakh. However, the report did not exactly state how the entire matter exactly started.

The police based on the complaint launched an operation and on verification of the facts, they found the alleged “fraud” to be a person from Guwahati’s Satgaon area named Navadeep Sharma. On further investigations by the police, it was found that the person had his True-Caller account saved by the name of Jayanta Malla Baruah, and every time he would dial a number, the other person used to think that Baruah was calling. This was the trap that the person had laid to duped people into thinking that he was Baruah.

The person as per the reports had confessed that he was “extorting” at least five persons. He had promised to give them government jobs.
