Guwahati Police to Keep Strict Vigilance on Uruka Night

Guwahati: Guwahati Police will maintain strict vigilance and start conducting searches on Saturday evening to prevent accidents during Uruka.

Several places throughout the city will be the focus of operations by the transport department, traffic police, and excise agency to monitor illicit activity and avoid accidents.

The transport department also sponsored a programme at Uzan Bazaar to raise awareness of the dangers of drinking and driving and accident prevention.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on the occasion of Magh Bihu encouraged city residents who are travelling to their home villages to doubly lock their homes and safeguard their belongings to prevent any potential robberies by miscreants.

He said, “People will definitely go to their villages or be on tour on Bihu, but lock your homes using double locks and ask your neighbour or the people you trust to look after your house till you return. The police will do their duty to ensure the safety and security of residents but they should also be on their guard.”

On the other hand, Guwahati Police Commissioner Diganta Borah urged the populace to retain at least one person in their homes to look after their property and appealed to them not to leave their homes empty.

Borah said, “People have been asked to keep at least one person to take care of their property during the festival so that no unwanted incident takes place.”
