Halt in Nathu-la permit Amid Sikkim snowfall

Guwahati: The Sikkim government has decided to cease issuing permits to visitors to Nathula and Tsomgo starting on Friday due to the significant snowfall in the state.

This decision was taken by the Sikkim Police late on Thursday following heavy snowfall in the Himalayan state.

According to reports, the passes that have already been issued are invalid.

Meanwhile, according to the weather report, more snow is anticipated to fall in the higher elevations of north and east Sikkim during the course of the next few.

The Sikkim authorities have prohibited travel to Tsomgo and Nathula, but the number of tourists will keep increasing until the first week of the New Year.

On the other hand, Sikkim’s other popular tourist destinations including Lachen and Lachung are still open to visitors.

Approximately 1,500 hotels and 939 registered home stays are available. Sikkim’s north and east are critical from a national security perspective due to their proximity to the Chinese border. Visitors must have a permit to enter these locations.
