Heavy Rainfall Cuts Off Haflong-Silchar Link Road, Assam Braces for Cyclone Remal

Northeast Desk, 28th May: The Haflong-Silchar link road has been severed due to heavy rainfall on May 28, with a significant portion of the road washed away by rising river levels in Assam’s Dima Hasao district.

The Deputy Commissioner of Dima Hasao district has announced the closure of the Haflong-Silchar connecting road until June 1 as a precautionary measure.

Tragically, one person has lost their life, and 17 others have sustained injuries due to the strong winds and heavy rains that battered various parts of the state.

Meanwhile, in anticipation of Cyclone Remal, the Mizoram state government has ordered the closure of all government offices on May 28. The decision comes in response to the inclement weather and warnings issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

Recent weather forecasts indicate that Kerala, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim are likely to experience intense rainfall, heightening the risk of flooding and landslides. Residents in these areas are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
