Heavy rainfall to continue in Assam till June 20
Guwahati: Assam, Meghalaya, and other North-eastern states are anticipated to see heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over the next five days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday.
According to the IMD, isolated, exceptionally severe rainstorms are anticipated to hit Assam and Meghalaya between June 16 and June 18, Arunachal Pradesh on June 16, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on June 16 and June 17, all in 2022.
Additionally, the weather service issued a five-day heavy rainfall warning for Assam.
Additionally, Assam and Meghalaya are under a “Red Alert” from the IMD for the next three days beginning today.
Residents are told to “take action” in response to the “Red Alert” in order to protect themselves from bad weather. The remaining north-eastern states will be on an orange notice, which warns residents to “be prepared” for challenging weather.
In the meantime, due to an IMD red alert warning for heavy rainfall, the Kamrup Metro district government has ordered the closure of all educational institutions in Guwahati. In the past 24 hours, Guwahati has experienced “heavy rain,” with 81.5 mm of rain falling on the city.
The situation is predicted to worsen and more people are likely to swarm to the relief camps as the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Guwahati forecasts “very heavy rainfall” over the next few days.
The RMC has projected “very heavy rainfall” up to isolated and dispersed locations in Assam and Meghalaya from Tuesday through Thursday, while “Orange Alert” has been issued for Friday and Saturday.
Since Monday night, there has been nonstop rain in Guwahati, which has caused knee-deep water logging on all main and small roads around the city. In some spots, the water level has reached the breast.
