Ambubachi A Low Key Affair This Year In Guwahati due to COVID

Guwahati: The Ambubachi Mela will be observed in a low-key manner due to the COVID-19 epidemic. The old jail campus at Fancy Bazaar and the temporary camp at Sonaram Field were surveyed by Assam Tourism Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah on Thursday.

While touring the camps, the minister stated that the pandemic will prevent people from celebrating the Ambubachi Mela this year with as much fire and excitement.

The minister indicated that both VIPs and members of the general public could visit the Kamakhya Temple. No pilgrims will be permitted to drive from the Kamakhya Temple’s main entrance.

There won’t be a pilgrim camp on the temple grounds. Camps will be built only for the cops.

No cultural events should be held during the Ambubachi Mela. According to Jayanta Malla Baruah, there won’t be any VIP culture this time, and no passes would be given for the vehicles.

After a two-year hiatus, the revered Ambubachi Mela will return to Kamakhya Devalaya from June 22–26, 2022.

The main door of Kamakhya temple will be closed at 8.15 pm on June 22 for the pilgrims and will reopen on June 26.

There are some rules to abide by during the Ambubachi Mela, according to the temple authorities. According to the temple’s officials, there won’t be any accommodations or meals this time for the pilgrims travelling from other states.

Additionally, it said that throughout the Mela’s four days, the temporary stalls on the Nilachal Hills would be shuttered.

The Ambubachi festival is held during the monsoon season in the idea that Goddess Kamakhya goes through her yearly cycle of menstruation at this time. As part of customary seclusion during menstruation, the temple is closed for three days from the seventh day of the Hindu calendar’s “Ashadh” month to the tenth day. The doors are ceremoniously opened on the twelve-day mark, and a sizable fair is hosted there. The worshippers will be blessed and nurtured by the fecundity that the Goddess brings in.
