HM Amit Shah Presents President’s Colours Award to Assam Police

Guwahati: Union Home Minister Amit Shah awarded Assam Police in Guwahati on Tuesday with the President’s Colours award for meritorious service over the past 25 years. Assam is the country’s tenth state to receive this honour.

The highest honour bestowed upon any military or police unit in acknowledgment of exceptional service done to the nation, both in peace and conflict, is the President’s Colours, a unique flag.

The flag has Assam’s map, 36 stars signifying the state’s districts, a one-horned rhino, and the Assam Police insignia with its motto.

The Home Minister will also attend a function in Guwahati today to commemorate the first anniversary of the Himanta Biswa Sarma administration. Mr. Shah will also lay the foundation stones for several development projects throughout the city, including the Commissionerate of a police office building, later in the day.

Amit Shah, who received the President’s Colour award, wished the Assam Police jawans well. “The Assam Police Force has effectively occupied a top ten police force position. Today makes me proud. Assam’s police force has grown from 8000 to 70,000 officers, according to Shah.

While addressing in the occasion, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that today is a historic day in Assam Police’s 150-year history. “This is a selfless honour to the Assam Police’s responsibility.” On this day, I send my warmest greetings to all police officers. I also pay respect to the Martyrs who gave their life for their country. CM Sarma praised the Assam Police for their “outstanding courage” in the face of adversity.

“This day will go down in history as a watershed moment. In this regard, the President has given the Assam Police a new dimension,” said Assam Director General of Police Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta during a press conference today at Nehru Stadium.
